Pythian Community Support and Charities

Pythian’s support local charitable and community organizations as well as troughout British Columbia and Canada.

These are some of the major charities supported by the Knights of Pythias. The domain has multiple local lodges that support local organizations. Some lodges support also offer education grants and bursaries. Check with the Pythian Lodge in your community for additional information.

 

Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life gives you and your community the opportunity to celebrate cancer survivors, remember and honor loved ones lost to cancer and fight back against all cancers

 

The tour is best described as a team of police officers who gather from up and down Vancouver Island volunteering their time, cycling as a team, from one end of the Vancouver Island to the other, over 15 days. They stop in just about every community to raise money for childhood cancers. Last year, the tour collected $1.8 million, making it a record year for the Island as well as the second largest fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society

Police officers across the province play a leadership role in organizing the Canadian Cancer Society  Cops for Cancer events by involving the community in fundraising and cancer awareness activities.

The events range from head shaves in public places to participating in bike rides such as Pedal for Hope to organizing various school-based fundraising activities.

To raise funds in the fight against cancer, event participants collect pledges from their co-workers, friends, family and community members.

To date, the Canadian Cancer Society's  Cops for Cancer  program has raised more than $45.5 million across Canada

 

Cerebral palsy is a umbrella type term referring to abnormalities of motor control or movement caused by damage to a child's brain early in the course of development.  Cerebral palsy is caused by faulty development of or damage to motor areas in the brain that disrupts the brain's ability to control movement and posture. The brain injury can occur before birth, during birth, or in the first few months following birth.  Physical symptoms typically appear in the first few years of life and generally do not worsen over time.  Cerebral palsy is usually diagnosed within the first year or two following birth.
